CeNCOOS Funding
National Funding
- In July 2010 CeNCOOS received funding from the national NOAA IOOS office in the amount of $1,352,000 for the third and final year (2010) of the observing system implementation program. This grant brings CeNCOOS operating funds to $1,802,000 for FY2010. CeNCOOS staff and partners are already preparing the next implementation program proposal for the 2011-2014 time period.
- In May 2010, CeNCOOS received an annual coordination grant from NOAA IOOS for fiscal year 2010. This administrative grant ($400,000) represents the third and final year of a three-year funding cycle. The grant primarily supports CeNCOOS staff salaries, travel, education and outreach activities, office supplies and indirect costs. On September 28, 2005, CeNCOOS received funding for FY06-08 from the NOAA Coastal Services Center. Funding was $700,000 for FY06 and $400.000/year for FY07 and 08. The award included support for CeNCOOS staff (one full and two half-time), the Center for Integrated Marine Technology, data integration and product development efforts, supplies, outreach, and travel.
- In August 2008, NOAA's Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) awarded CeNCOOS $1,395,763 in fiscal year 2008 funding as part of a 3-year grant to support ocean observing efforts (view NOAA press release PDF). A similar amount was awarded in fiscal year 2009.
- CeNCOOS is continuously looking for funding opportunities to support additional regional ocean observing efforts. We are currently in the process of developing a proposal for a competative NOAA funding award (potential 3-year grant), due by September 2010. We are looking for partners to participate in this proposal effort, please contact us if your organization wishes to be involved.
California State Funding
The Coastal Ocean Currents Monitoring Program (COCMP) monitors ocean surface currents along the entire California coast. The project is administered by the State of California through the Coastal Conservancy and the State Water Resources Control Board. Funding for the project was provided by two voter approved initiatives: the California Clean Water, Clean Air, Safe Neighborhood Parks, and the Coastal Protection Act of 2002 and the Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of 2002.
